People always here about the Billboard Hit Charts and the very popular Billboard Music Awards. Many artists and record labels aim to reach the top of the Billboard Charts. Being listed on it means that your song/ album/ music/ artist is highly popular in the music scene. However, many people do not know the background of Billboard and what it is all about. Billboard is known to be the creator of the most reliable music hit charts in the world. Those who make it to this list mean a very large patronizing scope and towering popularity. Billboard compiles hit charts every week based on data on sales as gathered by Nielsen Soundscan and airplay data collected by the Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.

The Billboard Music Awards is an annual event sponsored by the Billboard Magazine. This award giving body aims to recognize the best in the music industry. This event is held every December to honor the successes in the music industry for the past year. The awards are given based on year- end music charts, and therefore, on popularity. Among the awards given during this event include Top Album, Top Artist, and Top Single in various genres. In 1992, the Billboard Century Award was added to recognize the most artist with the most excellent and tremendous contributions to the whole music industry. The Billboard Music Awards was postponed in 2007 due to contract expiration with Fox network. Since then, the awarding event has not been resumed; although the Billboard Latin America still continues to hold the event every year to recognize the past year’s bests in Latin music.

Many international artists have been recipients of the Billboard Music Awards; the most frequent winner including Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. Billboard also recognizes the efforts of new artists and gives corresponding awards to them. The Billboard Music Awards was one of the most anticipated music awards events that are attended by famous celebrities; mostly from the music industry.

This awarding event also features known personalities as hosts including Paul Shaffer, Phil Collins, Jon Stewart and many other prominent names in the industry. When the Billboard Music Awards went off air in 2007, the Billboard Magazine continued to publish the names of winners as part of its final publication for each year.

Some music successes come from unexpected places. For example, the song “From Where You Are” by Jason Wade was used on an Allstate commercial for cheap car insurance. It caught on in a big way and climbed as high as #40 on the Billboard charts.
